Prayer for Volunteers
Everlasting God, strengthen and sustain all those who volunteer in our parish,
that with patience and understanding they may love and care for your people,
and grant that together they may follow Jesus Christ offering to You their gifts and talents.
May Your Spirit guide them and renew them in all that they do.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen
International Volunteer Day mandated by the UN General Assembly, is held each year on 5 December. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work among their communities. International Volunteer day is a day to celebrate and promote volunteering. There are millions of volunteers in Australia and the contributions that they make to communities around the country are enormous. International Volunteer Day is an opportunity to acknowledge, thank and shine a light on the important work of volunteers.
I’d like to acknowledge the contribution Parish Pastoral Program Coordinators and Volunteers make to our Archdiocesan community. Whether your program has completed many Care Activities this year or just a few, it plays an important role in the life of your parish. Because of the generosity of people willing to offer their time and talents, people know there is help available when they may require it.
International Volunteer Day provides another good opportunity to acknowledge and thank the Volunteers in your Care Programs, to let them know they matter and ‘good works’ can only be offered in your parish because they have signed up. (Also, to wish them and their loved ones a blessed and happy Christmas.)
