The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
Friday, 16th June
First celebrated in 1760, in Rennes, France, through the efforts of Fr Jean Eudes. ‘The Life story of Jesus as found in the Gospels is a story of a heart full of sympathy. – “And seeing the multitudes, He had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd” (Mark 6:34). How wonderfully He showed His sympathy and understanding towards discouraged sinners; towards the sorrowing widow of Naim, towards the children who flocked to Him, His treatment of the woman taken in adultery; the repentant thief; the ashamed Peter; the parable of the Good Shepherd and the Prodigal Son. No wonder people listened when He invited them; “Come to me all who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest”.’
The Prayer to the Sacred Heart
O Lord Jesus Christ, to Your most Sacred Heart I confide this intention (name petition).
Only look upon me, then do what Your love inspires. Let Your Sacred Heart decide.
I count on You. I trust in You. I throw myself on Your mercy. Lord Jesus, You will not fail.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your love for me.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, Your kingdom come. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I have asked many favours, but I earnestly implore this one.
Take it, place it in Your open Heart. When the Eternal Father looks upon it, He will see it covered with Your Precious Blood.
It will be no longer my prayer, but Yours, Jesus.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Let me not be disappointed.

Memorial of The Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Immaculate Heart of Mary signifies, first of all, the great purity and love of the heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary for God. This is purity manifested in her “Yes” to the Father at the Incarnation, Her love for, and cooperation with, the Incarnate Son in His redemptive mission, and her docility to the Holy Spirit, enabling her to remain free of the stain of personal sin throughout her life. Mary’s Immaculate Heart, therefore, points us to her profound interior life, where she experience both joys and sorrows, yet remained faithful, as we, too, are called to do.
