ANOINTING OF THE SICK

“Some people worry receiving the sacrament of the anointing of the sick “brings bad luck” and the hearse will come next. This is not true! Anointing the sick doesn’t bring bad luck, it brings Jesus. Never hesitate to call a priest to bless and anoint sick or elderly family members.” Pope Francis

ANOINTING OF THE SICK

“Heal the sick!” We have received this charge from the Lord and strive to carry it out by taking care of the sick as well as by accompanying them with our prayers of intercession. We believe in the life-giving presence of Christ, the physician of souls and bodies. This presence is particularly active through the sacraments, and in an altogether special way through the Eucharist, the bread that gives eternal life and that St. Paul suggests is connected with bodily health

In the anointing of the sick, our Lord heals souls, calms minds, and gently calls us to trust that He is with us always, and will not abandon us during times of sickness and struggle. Through this sacrament our Lord shows forth that God “wishes no one to die in their sins but to turn back to Him and live.”

Contacting a Priest

Sick call emergencies can be made at anytime. Those who are not gravely ill or wish to be anointed prior to surgeries, are encouraged to call priest so that the sick can experience Christ’s healing presence in this sacrament.
